چکیده

The dynamical and thermal structure of an opaque boundary layer, connecting a classical T Tauri star (CTTS: M∗ = 1M , R∗ = 4.3R , Teff = 5000K) with its accretion disk (Ṁ = 10−7M /yr), has been computed, including particularly the effect of a turbulence-driven global heat transport. The inner boundary has been shifted deeper and deeper into the star’s envelope in order to determine how this affects the amount of angular momentum transfer. If the optical depth in the star’s envelope, where the disk meets the star, exceeds in our model example >∼ 10, then there is an energy flux from the star into the boundary layer. For even larger (>∼ 30) optical depths this outward flux approaches the star’s radiation flux and the boundary layer becomes a “hot” one. The angular momentum parameter C alone does not determine the solution uniquely. For a givenC there are, sometimes, two solutions. An argument is given why C ≈ 1.

Heating of a Star by Disk Accretion

We examine various ways in which disk accretion can heat an accreting star. These include 1) radiation emitted from the disk surface which is intercepted by the stellar surface, 2) radiative flux directly across the disk–star interface, and 3) advection of thermal energy from the disk into the star. For each of these, the physics of the boundary layer between the disk and the star is crucial to...

Quasi-periodic Oscillations as Global Hydrodynamic Modes in the Boundary Layers of Viscous Accretion Disks

The observational characteristics of quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) from accreting neutron stars strongly indicate the oscillatory modes in the innermost regions of accretion disks as a likely source of the QPOs. The inner regions of accretion disks around neutron stars can harbor very high frequency modes related to the radial epicyclic frequency κ. The degeneracy of κ with the orbital fre...

High resolution spectroscopy of Brown Dwarfs in Taurus

We present high resolution optical spectroscopy of three candidate members of the Taurus-Auriga star forming region. Based on the spectral type, the strength, profile and width of the Hα line, the detected lithium at 6708 Å, the location of these objects in a H-R diagram and the comparison with similar objects belonging to young stellar associations, we determine that they are bona fide members...

Effect of the temperature profile of the accretion disk on the structure of jets and outflows around protostars

Magnetic fields play an important role in creating, driving, and in the evolution of outflows and jets from protostars and accretion disks. On the other hand, the temperature profile of the accretion disks may also affect the structure of the magnetic field and outflows. In this paper, we use the self-similar method in cylindrical coordinates to investigate the effect of the temperature profile...

We argue that the recent thermal model of jet launching by young stellar objects, when applied to system containing disk-accreting white dwarfs naturally explain the otherwise astonishing absence of jets in cataclysmic variable stars. Thermal launching is possible when the accreted material is strongly shocked due to large gradients of physical quantities in the boundary layer (or at the inner ...
